Necessity is the mother of invention! Meet my Banana-Date Iced Coffee—a refreshing, nutrient-packed creation born out of the scorching heatwave of 2025 and inspired by the bold, sun-kissed flavors of Saudi Arabia, where I currently live. In the face of rising temperatures and a swirl of online coffee trends, I turned to creativity—and nostalgia. To elevate my iced caffeine fix,

Banana-Date Iced Coffee Ingredients

  • Banana

Bananas provide a mild, natural sweetness that can help balance the bitterness of coffee and create a smooth and creamy texture, enhancing the mouthfeel of iced coffee. Given its richness of potassium, vitamin B6, and vitamin C, it has a nutritional boost to our dehydrated bodies during intense heat.
  • Date

Dates are naturally sweet and have a rich, caramel-like flavor, which can balance the bitterness of coffee. Rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals, including potassium, magnesium, and vitamin B6, dates make your coffee break healthier. There are varieties of dates online, yet Majdoul Dates are my favorite.
  • Coffee Granules

Coffee granules are the foundation of this epic cold drink. Instant coffee granules are easily accessible both in grocery stores and online. Pick the brand that you are in love with. By whipping the coffee granules with sugar and hot water for 3 minutes, a delightful mousse-like and foamy texture is achieved.

  • Ice Cubes

Ice cubes help to maintain the frothy texture of the whipped coffee. As the ice melts, it gradually mixes with the coffee and milk, creating a smooth and enjoyable consistency.
  • Hot Water

Hot water is necessary to dissolve the instant coffee granules and sugar and achieve the consistency of whipped coffee.
  • Milk

The whipped coffee mixture used in Dalgona coffee is typically quite strong and concentrated. Milk helps to balance out the intensity of the coffee, providing a smoother and more palatable flavor.
  • Sugar

Sugar stabilizes the coffee foam, and it is necessary to achieve the whipped texture. If you want to avoid brown or white sugar, then use Monk fruit sugar, which I tested in this recipe, and it works just fine minus the calories.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Feel free to swap in any non-dairy milk in lieu of cow milk. Cashew is my favorite, and oat milk is my least favorite.
  • You can remove the date and keep the banana, or vice versa.

How to Make Banana-Date Iced Coffee

Step 1: Whip the Coffee

In a blender, Nutri Bullet, or a mini food processor, combine equal amounts of sugar, hot water, and coffee granules. Whip for 1-2 minutes until all the ingredients are incorporated. Toss in the ice cubes and continue whipping the coffee until it triples in size. At this point, add the banana(s), date(s), and milk then continue blending for another 1-2 minutes.

Step 2: Serve

Pour the coffee into tall glasses over some ice cubes and serve immediately.
